about
The foundation of these musical sketches is an audio field recording of found scenes at the South Carolina State Fair, recorded with an iPhone on October 18, 2013. This process really just meant walking around and keeping the recorder rolling.
Very little editing and composting was imposed on the captured scenes. The longest middle portion is simply an uncut walk around the "Midway" ride section of the fair. The final segment is a real-time walk out of the gates and back to the car as the noise of the fair fades away into the more everyday night sounds of Columbia, SC.
Each audio scene inspired a variety of instrumental sketches, recorded over a few days at the home studio when inspiration struck. Unlike some of my other experiments, all audio and music was recorded at the Fair and in the studio—no samples (not that there's anything wrong with samples)."
